You know that build up of germs in your manual or electric toothbrush can be a health risk. So, what to do? TV advertisements want you to buy costly toothbrush steamers for your bathroom but you don’t have the cash. So, what to do then? I’ll telling you that you don’t really need any of those products and you don’t need to spend a dime to start cleaning and sterilizing your toothbrushes right away!
This method of cleaning toothbrushes works with normal toothbrushes and electric toothbrushes. It not only cleans them but sterilizes them as well. Almost everyone already has all the equipment needed.
All you will need is a microwave, a microwave safe cup, a plate or saucer to put it on, and an oven mitt. Just put your manual toothbrush into the cup bristles down and fill it with water until it is well the above the bristles. Most manual toothbrushes do not contain metal but if yours does, the part with the metal in it must be completely covered with water. Microwave it until the water boils and boils for a minute or two. Let sit, then bang the toothbrush into the bottom of the cup to loosen any deposits. Do not touch the hot cup or plate unless wearing an oven mitt. Rinse off the toothbrush and empty the cup then refill with water and repeat.
To do this with your electric toothbrushes, remove the brush head from the motorized unit and put it into your cup. Completely cover it with water plus half an inch to an inch. If the toothbrush head has some metal in it that is OK as long as the brush head is completely covered with water. Microwave similar to above, but use a fork or other kitchen utensil to bang the electric toothbrush head into the bottom of the cup to loosen any deposits before repeating.
That’s the method, now get a big cup and do all of your families toothbrushes at once! This method also kills any odor or taste the toothbrush might have and I have not found it to harm toothbrushes in any way.
